Don’t memorize translations. Picture the meaning.
Learn “grow” as a translation, and it’s slow to come back when you speak. Watch a sprout push up toward the light, and the core image stays with you, so the meaning comes to mind in English.
See it. Hear it. Say it. Keep it.

“What I found especially wonderful is the speaking feature. Even when you are still not confident about talking in English, it takes what you mean as generously as a host family would and answers you, so you can practise conversation enjoyably and without any pressure.”

“Until now I just drilled the Japanese meanings out of a vocabulary book, but with BigBean I learn a word together with pictures and its core image, so now, when I see the word, rather than recalling the Japanese meaning, I have come to think intuitively, ‘this is the word with this feeling!’”

Frequently asked questions
What is BigBean?
BigBean is an English learning app that teaches you the most common English words visually. Every word comes with a photo that shows its core image, so you understand it in English instead of through a translation, and an AI tutor helps you use it when you speak. It has four tabs: Lessons for photo conversation lessons, Learn for a swipeable feed of picture words, Speak for four speaking modes, and Profile, where you watch your vocabulary grow word by word.
Is there a free trial?
The annual plan comes with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers.
What level is BigBean for?
BigBean starts from where you are. A 30-second vocabulary test and a 3-minute speaking check at the start set your level, and your road map is built around it. Conversation lessons use everyday scenes, and Explain lets you choose from three levels.
Can I get explanations in my own language?
Yes. The app is available in 22 languages. Choose yours, and the AI tutor explains its corrections in that language. Word translations appear in it too.
Which devices does BigBean work on?
iPhone with iOS 15.6 or later, iPad with iPadOS 15.6 or later, and Android devices with Android 8.1 or later.
Do I need an internet connection?
You need to be online for AI conversations, pronunciation scoring and Explain.
How do I cancel?
On iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. On Android, open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile icon, then go to Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel your subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google.
